Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto on Monday said Indonesia's economic development must be grounded in Pancasila values, with stronger downstream industries and natural resource governance playing a key role in achieving economic sovereignty.Speaking during the 2026 Pancasila Day commemoration in Jakarta, Prabowo said Indonesia must ensure that its natural wealth delivers the greatest possible benefit to its people.”For too long, the prices of our natural resources have been determined by others and set abroad. For too long, some of the profits from our natural resources have flowed overseas and not remained in our homeland,” he said.To achieve economic sovereignty, Prabowo said the government continues to strengthen natural resource governance through a centralized export policy, downstream industrialization, and stronger management of export earnings.The government, he added, is making major investments in downstream-based industries to increase the value added of Indonesia's natural resources and maximize benefits for the national economy.Prabowo also stressed that a Pancasila-based economy must prioritize national and public interests, ensuring that economic growth benefits all Indonesians rather than only a select few. “We believe that natural resources are not merely economic commodities. They are a trust from God Almighty that must be managed responsibly for the greatest prosperity of the people and for future generations,” he said.Prabowo pointed out that a Pancasila-based economy is rooted in religious values, humanity, and national unity, and should provide tangible benefits to all segments of society rather than focusing solely on economic growth.”Our children, especially those who are the weakest, poorest, and most vulnerable, must receive sufficient nutrition. Our farmers must have access to fertilizer at the right time and at the right price. Our fishermen must have fair market access and receive support and empowerment,” he said.He added that workers must be provided with decent employment opportunities and incomes.”The fate of our workers must be protected and supported,” Prabowo stressed.He said Indonesia's economic development should return to the ideals of the nation's founders by creating prosperity that is fair and equitable for all Indonesians.Prabowo described the Pancasila economy as the path toward a stronger, more independent, and more prosperous Indonesia.
