Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia's Ministry of Tourism promoted the country's tourism destinations to the Chinese market through a series of Sales Mission events held in Shanghai on May 22, 2026, and Guangzhou on May 25, 2026.”The Sales Mission is part of the Ministry's efforts to strengthen the promotion of the Wonderful Indonesia brand in the Chinese market while expanding business networks between tourism industry players from both countries.We hope this initiative will help increase Chinese tourist arrivals to Indonesia,” Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Deputy for Marketing at the Ministry of Tourism, said in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday.Ayu Marthini said the initiative forms part of the Ministry's flagship programs aimed at promoting quality tourism through the marketing of Indonesia's leading tourism products and experiences, including marine tourism and wellness tourism.Through the Wonderful Indonesia campaign, themed “Go Beyond Ordinary,” the Ministry introduced a range of priority destinations, including Bali, Lombok, Surabaya, and Jakarta. The campaign also highlighted various special-interest tourism products, ranging from wellness and marine tourism to cultural and nature-based tourism.The events featured table-top meetings and networking sessions that connected potential buyers with Indonesian tourism industry partners. The forum is expected to generate new business opportunities and foster more concrete cooperation between tourism stakeholders from Indonesia and China.The Sales Missions were organized in collaboration with the Indonesian Consulates General in Shanghai and Guangzhou as part of efforts to enhance Indonesia's tourism promotion in China.The events in Shanghai and Guangzhou generated 12,336 potential visitors, with potential transactions valued at US$6.17 million and potential foreign exchange earnings estimated at US$14.96 million.Ayu Marthini said China remains one of Indonesia's priority tourism markets, given its significant outbound travel potential.In 2025, Chinese tourist arrivals to Indonesia reached 1,344,074, making China the country's fourth-largest source of international visitors after Singapore, Malaysia, and India.For 2026, the Ministry targets between 1.559 million and 1.726 million arrivals from China. As of March 2026, Chinese visitor arrivals reached 357,740, up 25.1 percent from 285,025 arrivals recorded during the same period in 2025.The increase has been supported by strengthening air connectivity between Indonesia and China. Shanghai and Guangzhou serve as two key departure hubs for Chinese travelers visiting various destinations across Indonesia.”Direct flights from cities across China to Indonesian destinations such as Bali, Jakarta, Surabaya, and Manado continue to show positive growth in line with rising demand for travel to Indonesia,” Ayu Marthini said.
