Seoul, South Korea (ANTARA) – Indonesia has settled its financial contribution for the South Korean-made fighter jet prototype project, KF-21 Boramae, and is ready for handover.”One of the six KF-21 prototypes has been agreed to be delivered to Indonesia. Hopefully, this can be realized in the near future,” Indonesian Ambassador to South Korea Cecep Herawan said at the “Indonesian Next-Generation Journalist Network”, organized by the Korea Foundation and the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia at the Indonesian Embassy in Seoul, South Korea, on Tuesday (June 9).Herawan said the joint development of the KF-21 had been completed in June 2026 after more than a decade. Going forward, the Indonesian Embassy will discuss the follow up process for the KF-21 program, particularly regarding the use of production output.The Ambassador noted that Indonesia is one of S Korea's most important partners in the defense industry. Indonesia has been among the first customers of S Korean defense products since 1979.The knowledge transfer, says Herawan, plays a vital role in advancing the human resource development within the defense industry.He said that South Korea had gained valuable experience from its defense cooperation with the United States, adding that Indonesia is now benefiting from South Korea's expertise and insights on technology acquisition.Separately, the Chairman of the South Korea-Indonesia Parliamentary Friendship Association, Kim Gi-hyeon, stated that South Korea's defense industry produces some of the world's most technologically advanced weapons while maintaining competitive costs.He added that South Korean defense equipment has demonstrated strong performance in various conflict situations, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict and tensions in the Middle East.”I believe it will be very beneficial for Indonesia to strengthen cooperation with Korea. South Korea not only provides technology transfer, but also helps develop and train human resources to operate and manage these systems,” he said.Indonesia and South Korea have agreed on the handover of a single-seat KF-21 prototype for verification tests, including mid-air refueling.The transfer package, estimated at 600 billion won, includes a fighter jet costs of 350 billion won as well as various development-related costs.
