Natuna (ANTARA) – The Natuna Transportation Office in Indonesia's Riau Islands Province said the government's roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) ferry services are helping improve the distribution of goods and reduce logistics costs in the country's border region.Head of the Natuna Transportation Office Allazi said here on Tuesday that Ro-Ro vessels are specifically designed to transport motor vehicles, including cars, trucks, buses, and motorcycles, as well as passengers.Ro-Ro ferries in Natuna are commonly used by businesses to transport staple goods by truck from Tanjung Uban in Bintan to Natuna and from Sintete in West Kalimantan to Natuna.Natuna's marine products, particularly fisheries commodities, Allazi says, are frequently transported to other regions using the Ro-Ro service.”The service is part of a program initiated by the Ministry of Transportation's Directorate General of Land Transportation through the Class II Riau Islands Land Transport Management Center. It is also one of the Natuna District government’s efforts to help control inflation,” Allazi said.Natuna is currently served by two Ro-Ro ferries. The first is Kapal Motor Bahtera Nusantara 01, serving for two years, connecting Natuna, Anambas, and Bintan.Meanwhile, Kapal Motor Bahtera Nusantara 03 has been serving since early this month, connecting Bintan, Natuna, and Sintete, West Kalimantan.Passengers can purchase tickets from the vessel docks at the port.Starting from August this year, the authority will implement a single ticket purchase for each final destination to simplify ticketing services and eliminate the need for passengers to purchase multiple tickets during a single journey.”It is a joint agreement aimed at improving convenience,” Allazi said.
