KADIN backs Prabowo’s push for 8 percent economic growth

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) conveyed its readiness to assist the government in driving economic growth to eight percent as part of efforts to help Indonesia escape the middle-income trap.During a meeting between central and regional KADIN entrepreneurs from across Indonesia and President Prabowo Subianto on Friday, KADIN Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie said the target requires close collaboration between the government and the business community.”The Indonesian economy has grown at around five percent for the past 20 years. To move beyond the middle-income trap, we must gradually reach eight percent. If we work together, this is very possible,” Bakrie said.According to him, KADIN is a strategic partner of the government, as mandated by Law Number 1 of 1987. Therefore, the organization continues to encourage collaboration with both the central and regional governments to strengthen the national economy. He said that around 92 percent of Indonesia's gross domestic product (GDP) is driven by household consumption, private investment, and exports. This has prompted KADIN to take a more active role in strengthening these sectors by engaging MSMEs, cooperatives, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), regional-owned enterprises (ROEs), large corporations, industry associations, and business organizations.Since the start of President Prabowo's administration, Bakrie said KADIN has strengthened its organization and launched four quick-win programs: the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Gotong Royong Task Force, the Free Health Check-up (PKG) Task Force, initiatives to protect and improve the capacity of Indonesian migrant workers, and the renovation of uninhabitable houses. He added that KADIN is also stepping up economic diplomacy through the KADIN Global Engagement Office (GEO), which coordinates investment, trade, and industrialization opportunities arising from the government's partnerships with foreign countries.Bakrie said KADIN welcomes the government's move to evaluate and strengthen various economic programs. According to him, the policy has been well received by the market, as reflected in Indonesia's reaffirmed credit ratings by several international institutions. He also expressed KADIN's readiness to collaborate with the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (Danantara) to boost national investment.”We hope KADIN can work hand in hand with the government. Together, we can overcome these challenges and achieve eight percent economic growth,” he said.
