Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA) – A power bank caught fire aboard a Batik Air flight from Makassar to Jakarta on Thursday, but the aircraft landed safely, Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport authority official Taufan Yudhistira said.“We confirmed that a passenger’s power bank caught fire aboard a flight from Sultan Hasanuddin Airport to Soekarno-Hatta Airport,” Yudhistira said.The incident occurred during Batik Air flight ID 6143, he said.The situation was brought under control and the flight continued normally, arriving safely. The airline’s aviation security team reported the incident to Soekarno-Hatta airport authorities.The passenger who brought the power bank was handed over to airport authorities for questioning, Yudhistira said.A preliminary investigation found the power bank had a capacity of 37 watt-hours, within the permitted limit for carry-on luggage.Transportation Ministry regulations allow power banks below 100 Wh onboard. Units between 100 and 160 Wh require airline approval at check-in, while those above 160 Wh are prohibited.The regulations also require power banks to be carried in cabin baggage and prohibit their use during flights. Each passenger may carry up to two power banks.The airport authority urged passengers to comply with flight safety rules, particularly those governing power banks, to prevent similar incidents.
