Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Ministry of Forestry is strengthening the national nursery network to support President Prabowo Subianto's Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful (ASRI) environmental initiative, including by producing 70 million seedlings annually across Indonesia.According to a statement, Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni noted that President Prabowo specifically instructed the ministry to increase nursery capacity and provide high-quality seedlings to drive a nationwide greening campaign under the ASRI program.”He instructed me to prepare nurseries and supply high-quality seedlings to green our villages, cities, and districts across Indonesia,” Antoni said during the inauguration of the Sriwijaya Kemampo Nursery Center in South Sumatra on Friday.Currently, the ministry operates 59 nurseries nationwide. These include nine large-scale facilities—such as the newly inaugurated Sriwijaya Kemampo Nursery Center—alongside roughly 50 medium-scale sites.Overall, the network produces approximately 70 million seedlings a year to support nationwide reforestation efforts.”In principle, 70 million seedlings are currently available across our nurseries throughout Indonesia,” the minister said. The stock includes native timber species such as Sengon (Albizia chinensis) and Meranti (Shorea), alongside multi-purpose tree species and ornamental trees like Tabebuia (Handroanthus chrysotrichus) and Madagascar almond (Terminalia mantaly), offering both ecological and economic benefits to local communities.Minister Antoni emphasized that the success of the ASRI initiative relies on collaboration across ministries, regional governments, and local communities.”Therefore, we at the Ministry of Forestry invite everyone to join hands and ensure the successful implementation of President Prabowo Subianto's ASRI initiative,” he added. The Sriwijaya Kemampo Nursery Center covers 6 hectares and has a production capacity of 5 million seedlings per year. The public can collect free seedlings from the nursery, with each ID card holder entitled to up to 25 tree seedlings.
