Bantul, Yogyakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto said the operation of Kabanaran Bridge, connecting Bantul and Kulonprogo Districts in Yogyakarta, is crucial to boosting economic activity and tourism.Speaking at the bridge inauguration on Wednesday, the President noted that the infrastructure would shorten travel distances for local communities that previously had to take longer routes and open access to historically and culturally significant areas, which are major tourist attractions.“We have learned the historical significance of this site, where Prince Mangkubumi fought against the Dutch and established his headquarters. This bridge is expected to improve connectivity and facilitate access to such beautiful areas, important in Javanese culture and full of spirituality,” President Prabowo said.He also mentioned plans for area development, including tourism facilities and accommodations to support increased visitor numbers.“Our tourism has grown by 20 percent this year, a significant contribution to our economic development,” he added.The Head of State also appreciated all parties involved in completing the bridge’s construction and urged that the inaugurated infrastructure be well maintained.Prabowo also called on the Ministry of Public Works to continue ensuring the quality and timely implementation of infrastructure projects across Indonesia.“Thank you to everyone who worked hard. I entrust the maintenance of this bridge and request the Public Works officials to implement future infrastructure projects in the best possible way,” Prabowo said.The Kabanaran Bridge, formerly known as the Pandansimo Bridge, has a total span of 2.3 kilometers. It was built by the Ministry of Public Works since 2022 and completed in June 2025, with an investment value of Rp863.72 billion.It is located along the southern coast route of Java, serving as an important alternative to the northern coast.
