Baznas sends 186,000 liters of water to flood-hit Central Tapanuli

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s National Alms Agency (Baznas) has distributed about 186,000 liters of clean water to residents affected by floods and landslides in Central Tapanuli District, North Sumatra, officials said on Thursday.Head of Baznas’ Distribution and Utilization Division Saidah Sakwan said clean water is a vital component of disaster response and essential for maintaining public health during emergencies.“Clean water is the most basic need for disaster survivors, yet access is often disrupted during emergencies,” she said, emphasizing the urgency of rapid distribution to affected communities.Sakwan added that disaster-hit residents require clean water not only for drinking but also for sanitation, preventing disease, and supporting daily activities during emergency conditions.“The Baznas sees providing clean water as a way to safeguard public health. We have acted swiftly to meet needs in the field,” she said.Beyond supplying water, the agency is restoring facilities and infrastructure to ensure equitable distribution, including installing pipes in Parjalihotan Village, Pinang Sore Sub-district.“Additionally, we have repaired wells and water equipment in three sub-districts across Central Tapanuli to help residents regain access to water sources,” Sakwan added.She said the agency hopes its efforts will ease immediate burdens on victims while supporting their longer-term needs and resilience.Sakwan assured the public that Baznas remains committed to disaster relief from emergency response through recovery stages, coordinating with local authorities and partners to maximize impact.“Baznas is present for Sumatra. With support from almsgivers and partners, we are committed to providing basic needs like clean water and supporting recovery efforts for disaster-hit residents,” she concluded.
