Jakarta (ANTARA) – Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Fauzan has encouraged universities to produce outstanding young entrepreneurs as an important part of the implementation of the Impactful Campus initiative.”Universities are expected to provide services, guidance, and act as facilitators for the emergence of student-based entrepreneurs. Universities must also have social awareness to help addressing social problems, one of which is unemployment,” Deputy Minister Fauzan said in a statement received here on Thursday. He also encouraged stronger collaboration among universities, regional governments, as well as businesses and industries to accelerate the emergence of young entrepreneurs based on local potential. One model currently being developed by the Ministry is a university consortium in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). As part of its commitment to foster an ecosystem of student entrepreneurship, the Ministry continues to develop various programmes, including the Student Entrepreneur Mentoring Program (P2MW).”This programme provides funding support, mentoring, training, and business capacity-building for students who have started businesses, so that they can grow in a sustainable way and create broader economic impacts,” Fauzan remarked. He noted the effort is in line with instructions from the Indonesia's president and vice president, who have placed the strengthening of the people's economy, the empowerment of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and job creation as important parts of the Asta Cita vision towards Golden Indonesia 2045.On one hand, data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) showed the country's open unemployment rate stood at 4.68 percent in February 2026, equivalent to around 7.24 million people. On the other hand, Indonesia is currently enjoying a demographic bonus, with a productive-age population dominating the demographic structure and serving as an important asset for national economic growth. The condition calls for strengthening the entrepreneurship ecosystem, including through the role of universities in preparing a young generation that is innovative, adaptive, and capable of creating business opportunities.
