Dudung sees Prabowo addressing workers at May Day rally

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Presidential Chief of Staff Dudung Abdurachman said he is confident that President Prabowo Subianto will respond to workers' aspirations during Indonesia's May Day rally in Jakarta on Friday, signaling the government's openness to labor dialogue.”I am confident the President will respond to what is conveyed. Indonesians uphold morality, unity and the nation’s core values,” Dudung said, expressing expectations for constructive engagement between workers and authorities.Prabowo is scheduled to attend the main May Day event at Jakarta’s National Monument (Monas) on Friday, marking a prominent government presence at the annual commemoration.Dudung said he will also attend the peak of Indonesia’s 2026 May Day celebrations to hear workers’ demands firsthand, underscoring the administration's willingness to engage directly with labor groups.”I will be there to see and listen directly to workers' aspirations,” Dudung said in Jakarta on Thursday, emphasizing his intention to interact with participants during the annual Labor Day gathering. He added that workers' demands would be heard and addressed by President Prabowo, and expressed hope the May Day event would proceed in a safe, orderly and peaceful manner.Government Communications Office head Muhammad Qodari said the president's attendance reflects a commitment to ensure workers' voices are not only heard but also translated into concrete policies. He stressed that the government does not stand in opposition to workers, but alongside them, positioning the state as both protector of labor rights and guardian of sustainable employment.Qodari said workers' welfare and business health are not conflicting goals, but complementary elements of the same objective, requiring balance to support long-term economic stability.A healthy business sector is essential to maintain job continuity and wage payments, he said, noting that struggling enterprises would face difficulties meeting payroll obligations.Separately, Ministry of Manpower Secretary-General Cris Kuntadi said this year's May Day theme is “Collaboration for Advancing Industry and Workers’ Welfare,” with the tagline “One resolve, one goal, shared prosperity.”
