Jakarta (ANTARA) – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia accompanied President Prabowo Subianto to discuss strategic energy sector issues, including cross-border electricity interconnection in the region, at the 48th ASEAN Summit.”Indonesia continues to encourage the strengthening of ASEAN energy cooperation for regional energy security, including through strengthening energy connectivity, diversifying supplies, and accelerating a sustainable energy transition,” the ministry's spokesperson, Dwi Anggia, said in a statement on Thursday.Lahadalia is accompanying Prabowo to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings in Cebu, Philippines, on May 7-8, 2026.During this visit, Prabowo and ASEAN Heads of State discussed various strategic regional agendas, including strengthening ASEAN energy cooperation and security.As part of the agenda, Lahadalia is set to assist the president at all meetings discussing strategic energy sector issues of common concern to ASEAN countries.According to Anggia, Indonesia's participation in the ASEAN forum provides a crucial opportunity to strengthen regional energy collaboration amidst global geopolitical dynamics.In addition, Indonesia also emphasized the importance of regional solidarity and coordination in addressing global challenges that could potentially impact the stability of energy supplies and the regional economy.This year's ASEAN Summit, themed “Navigating Our Future, Together,” focuses on strengthening regional stability, economic integration, food and energy security, and sustainable development in the ASEAN region.Indonesia’s participation in the ASEAN high-level forum reflects its efforts to strengthen regional cooperation, particularly in the strategic energy sector, regional energy security, as well as connectivity and sustainable development across ASEAN.President Prabowo departed to attend the 48th ASEAN Summit from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, on Thursday at 9:10 a.m., accompanied by Minister Lahadalia and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.Upon arrival in Cebu, he is scheduled to attend one of the agenda items of the 48th ASEAN Summit, namely the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Summit, a strategic forum to strengthen connectivity and economic cooperation within the ASEAN subregion.
