Jakarta (ANTARA) – Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Bahlil Lahadalia instructed the newly inaugurated Head of the Aceh Oil and Gas Management Agency (BPMA), Mawardi Nur, to boost oil and gas production in the Andaman Block.Speaking at the ESDM Ministry office in Jakarta on Wednesday, Bahlil issued the mandate following Mawardi’s official inauguration, where he succeeded outgoing BPMA chief Teuku Mohamad Nasri.”Increase production in Andaman,” Minister Bahlil said.In addition to prioritizing the Andaman Block, Bahlil instructed the new BPMA leadership to maximize production across all oil and gas working areas in Aceh. The initiative aligns with ongoing offshore development by UAE-based energy company Mubadala Energy, which has discovered substantial natural gas reserves in the Andaman Block and is targeting an initial production of 300 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD).However, the field's development strategy has prompted input from the Aceh provincial government.Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf, commonly known as Mualem, has submitted formal letters to President Prabowo Subianto and Minister Bahlil regarding Mubadala Energy's development of the Tangkulo South Andaman Field. In the letters, the provincial government requested that the gas be processed through an onshore receiving facility (ORF) in the Arun Lhokseumawe Special Economic Zone (KEK), rather than through an offshore floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) system.Governor Muzakir also requested that a portion of the natural gas production be allocated to support industrial development in Aceh, while calling for a temporary suspension of approval for the project's Plan of Development (PoD) pending further review.
