Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) – Extreme weather disrupted the Java-Bali interconnection system on Sunday evening, causing temporary power outages in parts of Bali, state-owned electricity firm PLN Bali UID said.PLN Bali UID General Manager Eric Rossi Priyo Nugroho said the disturbance occurred at 7:39 p.m., triggering the automatic operation of the grid's protection system to secure the network. The protection mechanism functions similarly to household electrical safety systems but operates on a much larger scale.”When a disturbance is detected, the system automatically disconnects part of the load to prevent wider impacts and protect equipment,” Nugroho said. The disturbance led to partial load shedding as a safety measure before the system fully normalized at 8:36 p.m.Based on system mapping, affected areas included Gianyar, Tabanan, Jembrana, Denpasar, Buleleng, Klungkung, Bangli, Badung, and Karangasem, with the latter two experiencing the most significant impact. In other locations, outages were feeder-based, affecting only specific distribution lines from substations. Areas served by separate lines remained unaffected.”The entire team responded swiftly once the disturbance was detected. Close coordination ensured restoration was carried out safely,” Nugroho said.He added that Bali's electricity system had fully returned to normal by 8:36 p.m., bringing total restoration time to less than one hour.Responding to reports of a week-long rolling blackout in Bali, PLN denied the claims.Nugroho said the company has neither implemented nor planned rolling blackouts. He affirmed that Bali's electricity system is currently operating normally, with sufficient capacity to meet customer demand.
