Jakarta (ANTARA) – Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni emphasized that forestry carbon trading in Indonesia must uphold the values of openness and inclusivity.“Based on the President’s (Prabowo Subianto) order, this carbon trading is inclusive and open, not only to the private sector but also involves the community, with the ultimate goal of preserving forests and improving public welfare,” Antoni said in a press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday. This value, he continued, is mandated by Presidential Regulation No. 110 of 2025 concerning the Implementation of Carbon Economic Value Instruments and National Greenhouse Gas Emission Control. The regulation was further strengthened by Forestry Minister Regulation Number 6 of 2026 concerning Procedures for Carbon Trading through Greenhouse Gas Emission Offsets in the Forestry Sector, which was promulgated on April 13, 2026.”The regulation also emphasized one important point: forestry carbon trading must not be a closed and exclusive space,” the minister said.By recognizing social forestry and customary forest schemes, he said, communities are placed as legitimate and equal participants in the system.”Those who protect forests, maintain land cover, and care for ecosystems now have the opportunity to participate in the economic benefits of carbon,” Antoni said.He believes this is a form of state appreciation for grassroots forest guardians, as well as a concrete manifestation of social justice in the transition to a green economy.”I want to reiterate that this is an open carbon trading process that involves not only the private sector in the carbon market, but also farmers in social forestry and indigenous communities,” he said.Furthermore, the government also wants to ensure that the economic value of carbon is a crucial part of efforts to increase the economic value of forests and serves as an incentive to ensure forests remain sustainable, ecosystems are maintained, and communities receive equitable benefits.”Going forward, carbon must be a sustainable source of financing for conservation, rehabilitation, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable forest management. This way, the resulting economic benefits will go hand in hand with ecological and social benefits,” Antoni said.
