Four countries ask for Indonesia’s urea, over 750,000 tons sought

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman revealed that four countries have requested Indonesia’s urea fertilizer, with total demand reaching at least 750 thousand tons, amid global supply chain disruptions. He said that the four countries are India, Australia, the Philippines, and Brazil.”The Indian ambassador called directly to get the fertilizer; likewise, Australia, the Philippines, and Brazil. These four countries ask to get urea fertilizer,” Sulaiman stated after attending a meeting at the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs here, on Wednesday.India asked for 500 thousand tons of Indonesia's urea fertilizer, while Australia agreed to receive 250 thousand tons in the first shipping batch from Indonesia.Meanwhile, the total number requested by Brazil and the Philippines is yet to be finalized, he added. The minister explained that Indonesia’s fertilizer production capacity stands at 7.8 million tons, compared to a domestic demand of 6 million tons. “Hence, we can allocate one million tons for export,” Sulaiman said.Sulaiman said that the increase in global demand provided an opportunity for Indonesia to strengthen its agricultural exports, though it will be carried out with national interest in mind. The minister said the strong performance was reflected in findings from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), which showed that Indonesia’s agricultural exports in 2025 increased by Rp167 trillion compared to the previous year, while imports declined by Rp41 trillion.”The data showed that we got Rp200 trillion trade surplus,” he added.Indian Ambassador Sandeep Chakravorty met Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono on Thursday (April 16) to discuss plans to export Indonesia’s urea fertilizer to India. During the meeting, the Indonesian side expressed its willingness to export the surplus after domestic demand is met.Meanwhile, Australian Premier Anthony Albanese thanked President Prabowo Subianto for helping Canberra secure its fertilizer supply during a phone call on Tuesday (April 21).
