Gov’t targets absorption of 4 million tons of rice reserves in 2026

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman said here on Monday that he is optimistic Indonesia can achieve its target of absorbing four million tons of government rice reserves (CBP) in 2026.Sulaiman said the target was agreed upon during the 2026 Unhusked Rice Absorption Meeting involving the state-run logistics agency Bulog and the National Food Agency (Bapanas).“Today, we held a meeting with Bulog and the National Food Agency. We are targeting the absorption of unhusked rice in 2026 at four million tons in rice equivalent. This is Bulog’s target. We are collaborating and working together, and God willing, it can be achieved,” he said after the meeting.According to the minister, achieving the target will require strong coordination among all stakeholders, including the central government, Bulog, and farmers, to ensure optimal rice production, absorption, and management. He noted that reaching the four-million-ton target could mark a new milestone in national food security, supported by an expansion of planted areas in 2026 of around 500,000 hectares compared with the previous year.At the same meeting, Bulog President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani said the agency has strengthened its procurement strategy to prioritize the absorption of four million tons of rice reserves in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to maintain food self-sufficiency.The 2026 target represents an increase from the 2025 realization of three million tons. In response, Bulog has conducted early planning through a National Working Meeting on the evaluation of 2025 performance and the formulation of the 2026 work plan, held in Jakarta on January 11–12.Ramdhani said Bulog will make maximum efforts to support sustainable food self-sufficiency through effective rice absorption, processing, and distribution across the country.
