Health Ministry proposes Bogor as integrated TB control model

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Health has proposed Bogor City as a national pilot for an integrated tuberculosis (TB) control program after the city successfully established TB Alert Villages across all 68 urban villages.Deputy Minister of Health Benjamin Paulus Octavianus expressed his appreciation at the launch of the Active Case Finding (AKF) TB program, integrated with the SMART Free Health Check (CKG) in Bogor City, West Java.”I learned that all urban villages in Bogor City have become TB Alert Villages. This is extraordinary and I want Bogor City to become a national model,” he said on Wednesday.According to him, effective TB control requires proactive case finding by local governments, community health centres, regional officials, and community health workers, especially among people who have been in close contact with TB patients.Through integration with the SMART CKG program, residents can undergo screening more closely from their homes. This examination includes a health screening, chest X-ray, and sputum testing if abnormalities are found. The Ministry of Health will also provide Tuberculosis Preventive Therapy (TPT) to high-risk residents who have not developed active TB.As of July 26, 2026, the TB case detection rate in Bogor City had reached 71.9 percent of the 90 percent target.Deputy Minister Octavianus hopes this movement can significantly reduce the national TB case curve between 2028 and 2029.On the same occasion, Bogor Mayor Dedie A. Rachim said that although the city has a life expectancy above the national average, it still faces major challenges from its high population density, which increases the risk of infectious disease transmission.Meanwhile, Bogor City Health Office Head Erna Nuraena said Bogor ranked fifth in West Java for TB burden in 2025, with 10,577 recorded cases and an incidence rate of 955 per 100,000 population.”However, of the total patients treated in Bogor City, only 62 percent were native Bogor residents. The remainder came from Bogor District (35 percent) and outside the region (3 percent). This situation makes Bogor City a reference for TB services, but on the other hand, it adds challenges in monitoring patients across regions,” she noted. To reduce the number of cases, the Bogor City Government is targeting the implementation of integrated TB tracing from August to November 2026. This program will target 23,200 people in 232 locations across 68 urban villages.
