IMF praises Indonesia’s economy, Prabowo sees faster growth

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto has expressed optimism about Indonesia’s economic growth prospects amid global uncertainty, following praise from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which described Indonesia as one of the bright spots in the global economy. The president conveyed his optimism during a speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday local time.He said the IMF’s assessment reflects Indonesia’s consistently solid economic performance despite mounting external pressures.“The IMF recently described Indonesia as a global bright spot, with strong economic growth in a very challenging external environment,” Prabowo said.He explained that over the past decade, Indonesia’s economy has consistently grown by more than five percent annually, and he voiced confidence that growth momentum would strengthen further this year.Beyond steady growth, Prabowo stressed that Indonesia’s macroeconomic indicators remain well managed.Inflation has been maintained at around two percent, while the government’s budget deficit has been kept below three percent of gross domestic product.According to the president, Indonesia’s economic credibility is also demonstrated by strong fiscal discipline and the government’s consistent commitment to meeting its debt obligations. He emphasized that Indonesia has never experienced a sovereign default.“International institutions do not praise us for baseless optimism. They do so because of evidence. They recognize that Indonesia’s economy is resilient,” Prabowo said.He added that Indonesia’s economic resilience is the result of carefully designed, evidence-based policies. With this foundation, the government remains optimistic that Indonesia will not only withstand global volatility but also seize the momentum to accelerate economic growth going forward.
