Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia has announced its decision to join the Board of Peace for Gaza, an initiative launched by United States President Donald Trump to support recovery efforts and realize stability in Palestine. The decision was announced in a joint statement by the foreign ministers of Indonesia and seven Arab-Islamic countries, namely Turkiye, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, as published by Indonesia's Foreign Ministry on Thursday. “The Ministers announce their countries' shared decision to join the Board of Peace,” the joint statement read. Each country, including Indonesia, will sign the accession documents according to its “respective relevant legal and other necessary procedures.” The foreign ministers reiterated their countries' support for the peace efforts initiated by President Trump and reaffirmed their commitment to the mission of the Board of Peace as a “transitional administration” in the Gaza Strip. The initiative is set out in the “Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict” and endorsed by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803. The ministers expressed hope that the step will help consolidate a permanent ceasefire, support the reconstruction of Gaza, and advance a just and lasting peace grounded in the Palestinian right to self-determination and statehood under international law. They noted the move is intended to “pave the way for security and stability for all countries and peoples of the region.” Last week, President Donald Trump announced the formation of the Board of Peace for Gaza, which includes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. The organization is expected to monitor the mobilization of international resources to Gaza, which is undergoing reconstruction after two years of conflict. However, the initiative received mixed reactions from the international community. Some European countries expressed concern that the proposal is intended to sideline the UN as the primary forum for resolving global conflicts.
