Indonesia Eid travel surge: 4.41M passengers across 37 airports

Jakarta (ANTARA) – State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) recorded 4.41 million passenger movements at its 37 airports during the D-7 to D1 of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, reflecting the high level of public mobility during this year's homecoming season.“From March 13 to 21, 2026, the cumulative number of passenger movements at our 37 airports reached 4.41 million, a 3.7 percent increase from 4.25 million passengers recorded in the same period last year,” President Director Mohammad R. Pahlevi said in a statement on Sunday (March 22).He explained that the peak of homecoming occurred on Eid D-2 or March 18, with 568,964 passengers. Meanwhile, on Eid al-Fitr on March 21, the number of passengers traffic was recorded at 397,670.The company also recorded an increase in aircraft movements, with 33,099 flights operated between March 13 and 21, 2026, representing a 6 percent rise from 31,240 flights in the same period last year.“The homecoming transportation period ran smoothly. We are grateful that operations and services were well maintained, supported by careful planning, strong coordination, and collaboration among all airport stakeholders,” Pahlevi said.He noted that one example of this collaboration is airports optimizing slot times, namely the allocation of takeoff and landing windows, to accomodated increased air travel demand during the peak Eid al-Fitr holiday period.”This slot time optimization is also supported by the high realization of additional flight operations (extra flights),” he added. From March 13 to 21, 2026, InJourney Airports received requests for approximately 2,500 extra flights from airlines with approximately 2,000 additional flights were realized.Pahlevi considered this figure is quite high, as airlines generally fulfill only 60 to 70 percent of requested additional flights. This figure demonstrates growing demand for Eid transportation, as well as strong collaboration among all airport stakeholders, he stated.InJourney Airports recorded the five busiest airports during this year’s homecoming travel period: Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang with 1.51 million passengers, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali with 523,944 passengers, Juanda International Airport in Surabaya with 378,056 passengers, Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar with 283,099 passengers, and Kualanamu International Airport in Deli Serdang with 207,661 passengers.
