Jakarta (ANTARA) – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said the government is studying efforts to strengthen local marketplace platforms to prevent domination by global players amid the rapid growth of trade digitalization.Sadewa noted that the current marketplace ecosystem is largely controlled by foreign companies, posing challenges for domestic businesses. “I am considering whether there are domestic companies that can be revived to compete with the dominance,” he told reporters at the ministry's Directorate General of Taxes office here on Saturday. To build viable domestic competitors, he said the ministry is reviewing the existing marketplace ecosystem, including platforms collaborating with social media services such as Tokopedia and TikTok.The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen the national economy, he added.Amid global geopolitical uncertainties, the minister said the government is focusing on boosting domestic demand to reduce reliance on external factors. Beyond the marketplace issue, Sadewa said he is preparing measures to support the private sector, maintain purchasing power, manage subsidized fuel prices amid global oil fluctuations, and ensure timely government spending.“Despite global conditions, domestic demand remains strong. Growth may slow if conflicts continue to escalate, but we will maintain domestic demand,” he said.Overall, he assessed that the national economy remains relatively stable, as reflected in various economic indicators and his field observations during the Ramadan period. He also expressed optimism that economic growth in the first quarter of 2026 could reach around 5.6 to 5.7 percent.Sadewa said the projection remains solid despite current global economic pressures, including tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.According to him, the national economy has remained resilient due to various mitigation measures implemented by the Indonesian government.
