Indonesia launches Molinas in push for electric vehicle self-reliance

..Molinas can be affordable and high quality, especially since we can carry out downstreaming from nickel into batteries,Jakarta (ANTARA) – Investment and Downstreaming Minister Head and Danantara CEO Rosan Perkasa Roeslani said Indonesia is strengthening its self-reliance in the transportation sector through the launch of the National Electric Motorcycle (Molinas).”Molinas is a collaboration and synergy between the government, state-owned enterprises, and national companies to strengthen our independence,” Roeslani said at the launch of Molinas and its supporting ecosystem in Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java, on Thursday.Roeslani said Indonesia has all the components needed to produce a national electric motorcycle. Regarding batteries, he said Indonesia uses nickel-based batteries, as 46 percent of the world's nickel reserves are located in the country. He added that Indonesia also has the technology and capability to develop a national electric motorcycle.”This creation by our own people can develop further. Molinas can be affordable and high quality, especially since we can carry out downstreaming from nickel into batteries, which can then be used in Molinas production going forward,” Roeslani said.Roeslani said the Molinas launch aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's directive that Indonesia must be self-reliant and stand on its own feet in every economic activity.”Today's event is very, very important and very, very strategic, because it is in line with the President's direction that we must be self-reliant,” he said.Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the domestically made Molinas and its supporting ecosystem at the production facility of PT Ilectra Motor Group (ALVA) in Cikarang, Bekasi district, West Java, on Thursday. In his remarks, Prabowo praised the courage of private business players, especially those willing to take the risk of producing e-motorcycles amid stiff competition from Chinese, Japanese, and South Korean-made e-motorcycles.He said the entrepreneurs' move is part of a joint effort to build Indonesia, which he often refers to as “Indonesia Incorporated.”According to Prabowo, the entrepreneurs' courage in producing electric motorcycles serves the national interest by reducing Indonesia's dependence on imported fuel.
