Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia has officially launched an economic stimulus program for the first quarter to facilitate public mobility and maintain purchasing power, particularly ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday.“This program includes transportation discounts, a work from anywhere (WFA) scheme, and the distribution of food assistance to ensure smoother mobility and more affordable travel costs,” Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.Under the transportation incentives, the government is offering a 30 percent fare reduction for trains and Pelni sea transport for the period March 14-29, 2026 , as well as discounts of 17-18 percent on economy-class airfares during the same period. In addition, the government is providing a 100 percent discount on port service fees from March 12-31, 2026.The WFA scheme will allow employees to work remotely on March 16-17 and March 25-27, 2026 as the intervening dates are public holidays to celebrate Eid al-Fitr.The implementation of WFA is expected to ease travel congestion, facilitate better planning for the annual homecoming travel, and ensure that work activities continue. In terms of food assistance measures, the government will distribute 10 kilograms of rice and two liters of cooking oil for two months at once to 35.04 million beneficiary families.“Through these policies, the public can plan their homecoming trips more flexibly, while economic and tourism activities continue to move. The food assistance is also intended to keep basic necessities affordable for millions of households,” Wijaya added. He expressed hope that the economic stimulus would be felt more broadly by the public ahead of Eid al-Fitr, while helping keep the national economy resilient and public welfare well maintained.
