Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia is pivoting its digital strategy from simple network expansion to driving tangible economic growth, Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid announced.Speaking Wednesday at the launch of the Indonesian Digital Infrastructure Roadmap 2026–2030 organized by the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas), Hafid declared that connectivity must deliver measurable social and economic value rather than just broader signal coverage.”Connectivity must impact growth. Development must shift from coverage to meaningful connectivity,” Hafid said in a statement on Thursday.The new roadmap signals a transition from merely deploying physical infrastructure, such as base transceiver stations (BTS), satellites, and submarine cables, toward building an integrated, high-capacity digital ecosystem.The government is adopting an integrated architecture that incorporates cloud computing, edge computing capacity, regulations, and governance.According to Hafid, national digital development aligns with the ministry’s three core guiding principles: growth, connection, and security.She explained that while equitable internet access remains necessary, every available connection must translate into economic productivity, enhanced human resource capacity, and robust digital sovereignty.To achieve this, the government is expanding fixed broadband through fiberization and the “Internet Villages” program, while strengthening the Submarine Cable Communication System (SKKL) with multiple international gateways to boost network resilience.Hafid also underscored the critical role of cybersecurity and data protection in safeguarding national sovereignty as Indonesia progresses toward its Indonesia Emas 2045 development vision.”Indonesia must be protected, not only its people, but also its sovereignty,” she concluded.
