Indonesia prepares delegation for global labor talks

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia is preparing a tripartite delegation ahead of the 114th International Labor Conference in Geneva in June, seeking a coordinated position on labor issues ranging from digital work to global standards.A Manpower Ministry official, Indah Anggoro Putri, said preparations offer an opportunity to align positions among government, labor unions and employers before the meeting.“Indonesia’s participation in the 114th ILC carries broader strategic importance than merely fulfilling an international invitation,” Putri said in a statement on Thursday.Preparatory meetings held earlier this week in Jakarta involved representatives from government institutions, labor unions and employer organizations participating in the delegation.Putri said Indonesia’s participation is aimed at protecting national interests, influencing global labor standards, maintaining socio-economic stability and responding to workplace transformation driven by digitalization and artificial intelligence.“Indonesia’s active involvement in setting global standards will determine future workforce competitiveness and economic readiness,” she said. The delegation, led by Manpower Minister Yassierli, will include representatives from government agencies, labor unions and employer groups.Putri said the tripartite structure reflects Indonesia’s commitment to inclusive social dialogue and developing labor policies that are fair and adaptive. This year’s conference agenda is divided into permanent and technical discussions.Permanent agenda items include reports from leadership bodies, budget discussions, reviews of labor convention implementation and the Committee on the Application of Standards.Indonesia is not included among countries subject to review under the standards committee agenda, indicating no international concerns over compliance with labor conventions.Technical discussions will cover labor standards for platform economies, gender equality, and social dialogue and tripartism.
