Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia has asked Australia to support its accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) by deepening bilateral economic ties, a senior minister said. “Indonesia hopes Australia will continue to strengthen cooperation to support our accession to the OECD and CPTPP,” Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said on Wednesday.Hartarto said in a statement following a meeting with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong in Jakarta on Tuesday that Canberra’s backing is key, as both multilateral forums offer wider market access, greater economic integration, and stronger global positioning for Indonesia.The ministers also reviewed the implementation of the Plan of Action for the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership 2025–2029, and emphasized aligning it with Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040.According to Hartarto, aligning the two strategies will open new opportunities for trade, investment, and development cooperation across ASEAN.”This alignment provides a clear direction for strengthening long-term economic relations between our two countries,” he said.Hartarto also welcomed Australia’s commitment to sustainable investment and deeper engagement in the Indo-Pacific.Both sides agreed to boost market access, promote bilateral investment, and enhance economic connectivity under joint programs outlined in the 2025–2029 plan.The meeting was also attended by Edi Prio Pambudi, Deputy for Economic Cooperation and Investment, and Gita Kamath, Deputy Head of Mission at the Australian Embassy in Jakarta.
