Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s military on Saturday night repatriated the bodies of three peacekeepers killed in Lebanon, sending them to their hometowns for burial after a ceremony at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak led a military release ceremony, after which the coffins of Major (posthumous) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, Chief Sergeant (posthumous) Muhammad Nur Ichwan, and Second Corporal (posthumous) Farizal Rhomadhon were loaded onto two aircraft.A C-130J Super Hercules transported Ichwan and Rhomadhon to Yogyakarta Province, where their remains will be handed over to families in Magelang, Central Java, and Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta, respectively.Meanwhile, Iskandar’s coffin was flown on a CN-295 aircraft to Bandung before continuing to his hometown of Cimahi, West Java.Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto and former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono paid their final respects as the soldiers lay in state at the airport’s VIP building.Prabowo offered condolences directly to family members, including parents, spouses and children, during the ceremony.Yudhoyono, meanwhile, wore a sky-blue beret associated with United Nations peacekeeping forces, recalling his past role in a mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 1990s.Families of the fallen soldiers said they had prepared to receive the bodies upon arrival.A representative of Iskandar’s family, Risman Efendi, said earlier that a special room had been prepared in Cimahi, with arrangements starting in the morning. The three peacekeepers were killed in two separate incidents in southern Lebanon in late March. The attacks were triggered by Israeli artillery fire that struck positions of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).Indonesia has condemned the incidents and called for a thorough investigation by the United Nations.Indonesia remains one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping missions worldwide.
