Indonesia targets 10 million new entrepreneurs by 2029

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian government is targeting the creation of 10 million new entrepreneurs by 2029 as part of efforts to increase the national entrepreneurship ratio and expand employment opportunities. To support this goal, the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) has launched the Superior Entrepreneurship Expo, an initiative aimed at strengthening the national entrepreneurial ecosystem.MSMEs Minister Maman Abdurrahman said on Wednesday that the program is designed to help young people, aspiring entrepreneurs, MSMEs, and business owners access integrated business development services, ranging from capacity building and business legality to financing and market expansion.”The goal is to create resilient entrepreneurs. From the early stages, we provide support by equipping participants with competencies, an entrepreneurial mindset, and sound business planning, while also opening access to financing and marketing opportunities,” he said.Under the program, participants receive mentoring and assistance through training, business capacity development, legal and certification facilitation, financial management training, and access to financing and markets.According to the minister, around 1,500 students from various universities participated in the program.Speaking at the same event, Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar said the government would continue to encourage the growth of new entrepreneurs while supporting MSMEs in expanding and upgrading their businesses to increase their contribution to the national economy.”MSMEs must continue to grow and move up the value chain. Economic growth must be supported by MSMEs, and they must also benefit from it. This is what we call an equitable economy,” Iskandar emphasized.Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Fauzan highlighted the important role of universities in producing a new generation of innovative entrepreneurs capable of addressing various social challenges.According to him, universities serve not only as centers of education but also as facilitators for the emergence of student entrepreneurs who can create jobs and offer solutions to social issues, including unemployment.”Universities are expected to facilitate the emergence of student entrepreneurs and contribute to accelerating entrepreneurship rooted in local potential and culture,” he said.
