Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia will use its 2026 chairmanship of the Developing Eight (D-8) group to strengthen Muslim-majority economies and help shield them from global volatility, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Arrmanatha Nasir said on Monday. He said preparations for the April 15 D-8 Summit in Jakarta were nearing completion, with Indonesia encouraging heads of state to attend in person. Several leaders have given positive signals ahead of formal confirmations.”Through D-8, we want to reinforce the economic role of Muslim-majority countries so they can better weather an unstable global economic environment,” Arrmanatha told reporters in Jakarta. He added that invitations were sent earlier this month, with official responses expected in the coming weeks. Informal indications from multiple leaders suggest strong participation.Alongside the leaders' summit, Indonesia will host a ministerial meeting and a special session on Palestine involving D-8 members and five additional countries from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.Established in 1997, D-8 is a development cooperation group of emerging economies comprising Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey. Azerbaijan became the group's ninth member in 2025.
