..the number of Indian tourists in Bali is on the rise,Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) – The expansion of cross-border digital payment systems through the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) has added value to Bali’s tourism sector by simplifying transactions for foreign tourists.“Currently, six countries are involved: Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, and China,” Head of Bank Indonesia’s (BI) Bali Representative Office Achris Sarwani said on Saturday.In addition to these six countries, Indonesia is currently conducting trials with two others: Saudi Arabia and India.Sarwani noted that the two countries represent significant markets, with Saudi Arabia, for instance, being a major destination for Indonesian Hajj pilgrims.Meanwhile, India has also emerged as a major source market for foreign tourist arrivals, particularly in Bali, he added.“Indeed, the number of Indian tourists in Bali is on the rise,” he said.BI Bali recorded Rp36 billion (US$1.9 million) in cross-border QRIS transactions in Bali in 2025, a 229-percent increase from Rp10.9 billion (US$591,000) in 2024.The volume of cross-border QRIS transactions reached 148,717 in 2025, representing a 224-percent increase.The central bank noted that Malaysian tourists are the most frequent users of QRIS for transactions, both nationally and in Bali.According to Sarwani, digital transactions are becoming increasingly popular as more business operators adopt the QRIS payment system.The number of business outlets using QRIS in Bali exceeds 1.1 million, while the number of QRIS users has surpassed 1.15 million.Meanwhile, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Bali recorded 3.2 million foreign tourist arrivals in Bali during the first half of 2026, a decrease of 2.82 percent from the same period in 2025.Australia recorded the highest number of foreign tourist arrivals, at 802,000, followed by China with 285,000 and India with 278,000.Furthermore, Bali is directly connected to India and Saudi Arabia through flights operated by airlines from both countries, helping facilitate tourist arrivals.
