Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia has requested an extraordinary United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting to discuss attacks on UN peacekeepers in Lebanon.”The Indonesian government, through our permanent mission in New York, requested a meeting one day after the first incident,” Foreign Minister Sugiono said in Tangerang, Banten, on Saturday.The move was taken as a firm response to the deaths of three Indonesian peacekeepers serving in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).Sugiono said France, the Security Council’s penholder on Lebanon, had agreed to Indonesia's request.Through the meeting, Indonesia aims to strongly condemn attacks targeting UN peacekeeping personnel and facilities.”In essence, we strongly condemn the attack on peacekeepers, in this case UNIFIL. We also demand a thorough investigation,” Sugiono said.The call for an investigation seeks to clarify the cause of the incident and identify those responsible.Indonesia also emphasized that the safety of international personnel must remain a top priority.
