Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested Deputy Manpower Minister Immanuel Ebenezer on suspicion of extorting companies in the workplace safety certification process.KPK Deputy Chair Fitroh Rohcahyanto said on Thursday that Ebenezer was suspected of demanding payments from several companies seeking certification.Ten other individuals were arrested along with the deputy minister. The KPK has 24 hours to determine their legal status, Rohcahyanto added.Ebenezer’s arrest marks the agency’s fifth sting operation this year. The first, in March, involved the arrest of officials from the Ogan Komering Ulu District legislature in South Sumatra and the local public works and spatial planning office.In June, the KPK detained officials from North Sumatra’s public works and spatial planning office and the provincial national road task force in connection with alleged graft in road construction projects.That was followed by arrests in Jakarta, Kendari (Southeast Sulawesi), and Makassar (South Sulawesi) on August 7–8, related to suspected corruption in the construction of a regional hospital in East Kolaka District.The fourth operation, on August 13, targeted graft in a forest management cooperation scheme.
