Indonesia’s new capital prepares integrated education hub

Nusantara (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s future capital is building an integrated education zone alongside housing and public services, as authorities seek to ensure schools are ready before residents and civil servants fully move into Nusantara, officials said.Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (Otorita Ibu Kota Nusantara, OIKN) Basuki Hadimuljono said the development of education facilities is being carried out in parallel with other supporting infrastructure in the Core Government Center Area (KIPP).“Education facilities are being developed at the same time as other essential services in the KIPP,” Basuki said on Sunday during a visit to Sepaku, Penajam Paser Utara District, East Kalimantan. This approach, he added, is intended to allow residential occupancy and social activities to take place simultaneously, ensuring the new capital functions as a livable city rather than merely an administrative center.Basuki said the integrated education model prepared by the Nusantara Capital Authority is expected to improve access, raise service quality and reduce daily mobility needs, while also reflecting strong political support for the capital’s development.Sustained backing, he said, is crucial to accelerate the provision of public services, including education, so that construction and development targets for Nusantara can be met on schedule. The education zone within the KIPP is designed as a comprehensive service hub, covering all levels from kindergarten and elementary school to junior and senior high school.“The education area is intended to meet the basic needs of residents and civil servants,” Basuki said, referring to state employees who are expected to relocate to the new capital in stages.Preparations for education infrastructure in the KIPP are now focused on the 2026/2027 academic year. One of the flagship projects is SMA Taruna Nusantara, a senior high school that is targeted to begin admitting students in 2026.Basuki said the school will strengthen Nusantara’s education ecosystem as a foundation for human resource development, serving as a leading institution focused on character building, competitiveness and national insight.
