Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia's state electricity company PLN said coal supplies meeting the specifications required by its coal-fired power plants are being distributed smoothly.”The supply of primary energy (coal) that meets the specifications required by our power plants is running smoothly,” PLN CEO Darmawan Prasodjo said in a statement on Monday. He said efforts to restore and strengthen the electricity system on Java are progressing smoothly and showing gradual improvement.Going forward, PLN will improve coal supply chain management and strengthen generating facilities to ensure the reliability of the Java electricity system.”We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the rolling blackouts last week,” Darmawan said. The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry earlier identified supply challenges involving medium-calorie coal, particularly coal with specifications of around 5,200 kcal/kg GAR required by PLN's power plants.Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia subsequently formed a medium-calorie coal procurement team to address PLN's fuel supply challenges. He also opened the possibility of revising coal prices for PLN amid rising production costs faced by suppliers and difficulties in maintaining medium-calorie coal supplies. The adjustment is related to the Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) policy, under which coal prices for PLN are currently capped at US$70 per ton.On June 19, Darmawan said PLN had accelerated the procurement of medium-rank coal supplies to meet power generation requirements. The coal has begun arriving at coal-fired power plants across Java, including facilities owned by PLN, PLN partners, and Independent Power Producers (IPPs).Darmawan also reported that one of the two power plants experiencing technical disruptions had resumed operations.Since June 21, the restored plant has been synchronized with the Java electricity system and has resumed supplying power, improving overall system reliability.”As a result, the rolling blackouts that occurred last week have been minimized today,” he said.Earlier, technical disruptions at two large IPP-operated coal-fired power plants caused them to disconnect from the Java electricity system, triggering rolling blackouts in several regions across the island.PLN and its power generation partners are continuing repair work to fully restore both plants and improve electricity reliability.
