Ministry projects 3.88 million green jobs in Indonesia in 2026

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Manpower projects that the green economy will create employment opportunities for around 3.88 million people across Indonesia in 2026, according to the Employment Outlook 2026.Anwar Sanusi, head of the ministry’s planning and development body, noted that the projection is supported by intensified downstreaming efforts to boost the value of natural resources and the continued development of new and renewable energy. As quoted in a statement here on Monday, he also attributed the positive outlook to the expanding practices of the circular economy, transportation electrification, and industrial modernization.“Employment opportunities arising from the downstream agenda and the green economy need to be seized by preparing workers who bring the competencies needed by industries. Therefore, capacity building is a crucial factor,” Sanusi affirmed. The official observed that the employment landscape in the 21st century has been shaped by various global trends and developments, particularly artificial intelligence development, automation, digitalization, and sustainable development agendas.“Indonesia is at a critical moment to transform the job market into a more productive, inclusive, and sustainable structure,” he added. To capitalize on opportunities offered by the green economy, he continued, the Ministry of Manpower is working to strengthen the national competency development system by aligning vocational training programs with skill sets demanded by businesses and industries. He further noted that the Employment Outlook 2026 could serve as a reference or benchmark for the government, businesses, academicians, and other stakeholders in devising strategic steps or policies to boost workforce competitiveness and foster a better job market.“The Employment Outlook 2026 illustrates opportunities, challenges, and the direction of policies that need to be taken to strengthen the resilience of the national job market,” Sanusi concluded.
