Jakarta (ANTARA) – Deputy Chairman of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), Eddy Soeparno, called on universities to support President Prabowo Subianto’s efforts to accelerate the energy transition, including the 100 GW solar energy, transportation electrification, and bioenergy development.”In response to the current geopolitical situation, President Prabowo’s commitment needs to be supported by all parties, both political support in parliament and support from the academic community, in this case, universities,” he said in a statement here on Friday. He made the remarks during the MPR Goes to Campus event at the Muhammadiyah University of North Sumatra (UMSU) in Medan. Soeparno was welcomed by UMSU Rector Prof. Agussani along with vice rectors and deans. In his presentation, he emphasized the relevance of energy security amid global geopolitical dynamics.”Among the efforts to achieve energy security is accelerating electrification and energy transition to significantly reduce our dependence on energy imports such as crude oil and LPG,” he said.He noted that universities can contribute by preparing skilled human resources ready to work in the green industry and renewable energy development. The energy transition acceleration would open up new job opportunities requiring skilled formal workers.”These job opportunities must be filled by our own people who are ready and skilled in the green industry. Therefore, there must be a link and match between industry needs and the curriculum taught at universities,” he explained. He also expressed hope for university support in developing renewable energy research as input for government policies, particularly in accelerating the energy transition. He stressed that efforts to accelerate the energy transition should benefit domestic industries, boost industrialization, increase production capacity, and absorb a significant number of skilled formal workers from within the country.
