Jakarta (ANTARA) – The death toll from the major earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) has risen to 75 as of Thursday afternoon, the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB) reported.Acting Head of the BNPB Center for Disaster Data, Information and Communication, Berton S.P. Panjaitan, confirmed that four additional fatalities were recorded on Thursday, bringing the total up from 71 the previous day.”The four additional deaths were reported today, comprising two in Sikka District, one in Manggarai District and one in Nagekeo District,” Berton said during a virtual press conference monitored from Jakarta.In addition to the fatalities, the number of injured victims increased to 907, up by nine from the previous count of 898. All nine newly recorded injuries were reported in Ngada District.Berton extended the agency's deep condolences to the families of the victims and assured that medical treatment for affected residents remains ongoing despite challenging conditions.BNPB warned residents across the affected regencies to remain on high alert due to persistent seismic activity.The agency recorded a total of 3,752 aftershocks in the disaster zone, including a strong magnitude 5.7 aftershock that struck on Thursday at 10:47 a.m. local time.Residents were strongly advised to carefully assess the structural stability of their homes before attempting to re-enter damaged buildings.
