Platform X sets minimum age at 16 in Indonesia to comply with PP Tunas

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Digital platform X has set its minimum user age in Indonesia to 16 years old, aligning with Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems for Child Protection (PP Tunas), an official said.Director General of Digital Space Supervision at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Alexander Sabar stated that this policy reflects the global platform's commitment to complying with national regulations while enhancing child safety online.”We appreciate X's concrete actions as a commitment to compliance and ensuring the protection of children in the digital space,” Sabar said in a statement on Tuesday (March 17).In a letter dated March 17, 2026, X confirmed it would follow the provisions of PP Tunas, which restricts high-risk social media and networking services to users aged 16 and above. Sabar noted that X has already updated its dedicated Indonesian Help Center page with these changes.Beginning March 27, 2026, X will implement an action plan to identify and deactivate accounts that do not meet the minimum age requirement. “The Ministry will periodically monitor this process to ensure full compliance with PP Tunas,” Sabar emphasized.The Ministry has also urged all Electronic System Providers (PSE) who received a letter from Minister Meutya Hafid to follow X’s example by issuing official responses and taking immediate measures.”Active and timely compliance from all PSEs is crucial to creating a safe digital ecosystem for children,” Sabar added. Under PP Tunas, accounts belonging to children under 16 on high-risk platforms will be deactivated to safeguard them from harmful content, cyberbullying, and digital fraud.
