Police Reform Committee to hold first meeting next Monday: Jimly

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Chair of the Police Reform Acceleration Committee, Jimly Asshiddiqie, announced that the committee’s first meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 10, 2025, at the National Police Headquarters in Jakarta. The meeting will bring together all ten committee members to discuss short-term work plans, including hearing directly from the National Police about ongoing reform and improvement measures.“God willing, on Monday at 1 p.m., we will hold our first meeting at the National Police Headquarters,” Jimly said during a press conference following the inauguration and briefing by the President at the Merdeka Palace, here on Friday evening. He said the committee is expected to begin its work immediately, even though the president has not set a specific deadline. “Within at least three months, we should have an initial report, which may evolve depending on future developments,” he added.Jimly underscored that the committee will also seek input from the public, including academics, practitioners, and civil society organizations. These inputs will be gathered through public forums and social media channels. During its first meeting next week, members are expected to discuss the most effective mechanisms for collecting and responding to public aspirations.According to Jimly, President Prabowo’s decision to establish the Police Reform Acceleration Committee was a direct response to public demands following nationwide demonstrations in late August 2025.Calls for reform were also voiced by prominent national figures and the Nurani Bangsa Movement, who had earlier met with the president at the Palace.“Ideas for reform and improvement may lead to revisions of existing laws if necessary. This committee is not an ordinary team; it is a strong body prepared to handle major structural changes, though whether such steps are needed remains to be seen,” Jimly said.President Prabowo inaugurated the ten members of the Police Reform Acceleration Committee at the Merdeka Palace on Friday.Alongside appointing Jimly as chair and member, the committee includes National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra, Deputy Coordinating Minister Otto Hasibuan, and Minister of Home Affairs as well as former National Police Chief (2016–2019) General (Ret.)
