Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto praised the mass signing of 50,030 subsidized housing loans — the largest ever — as an extraordinary achievement for low-income communities.Speaking at the signing ceremony in Banten on Saturday, Prabowo said national development is a long-term process continued by successive leaders. He noted that the housing initiative began under previous administrations and remains a shared commitment to improving public welfare.”Today is an extraordinary achievement: the mass signing of 50,030 subsidized housing loans, initiated by President SBY, continued by President Jokowi, and I will continue and improve it,” Prabowo said.He urged housing developers to maintain construction quality so low-income families can obtain decent housing, even under subsidy schemes.Prabowo emphasized that low-income families must be supported and empowered, noting that the government's 3 Million Housing program aims to improve living standards for economically disadvantaged communities. The program, he said, will also benefit surrounding communities, including construction workers, small vendors, and other local economic actors. The president further reaffirmed his commitment to eradicating poverty, smuggling, and corruption to ensure broader prosperity.”If the weakest are empowered, they will revitalize the entire economy. That is why we must eradicate poverty and stop smuggling and corruption,” he said. The mass signing of subsidized housing loans across 33 provinces marked the largest such event in Indonesia. The ceremony was held at the Pondok Banten Indah Housing Complex in Serang, Banten, which spans 20 hectares and has potential for expansion to 60 hectares. In the initial phase, 1,600 subsidized housing units and 150 cluster housing units will be built. Each subsidized house will occupy a 60-square-meter plot with a 30-square-meter building area.As of December 19, subsidized housing mortgage distribution had reached 263,017 units worth Rp32.67 trillion (around US$1.95 billion), involving 39 banks, 22 developer associations, and 7,998 developers across 401 cities and districts.
