Prabowo quotes Korean proverb to highlight RI–South Korea friendship

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto invoked a Korean proverb to underscore the spirit of partnership with South Korea during a state banquet hosted by President Lee Jae Myung at the Blue House in Seoul on Wednesday. “I understand there’s a famous Korean proverb that goes like this: hamkke gamyeon meolli ganda. If we go together, we will go far,” Prabowo said, according to the Presidential Secretariat Press Bureau. The proverb, he noted, reflects the shared commitment of both nations to elevate their diplomatic ties. Prabowo emphasized that prosperity is best achieved through solidarity and a strong partnership. He expressed gratitude for the warm welcome extended by the South Korean government and highlighted that bilateral talks had yielded “productive and strategic achievements” for the future. Prabowo stressed that advancing relations to a Special Comprehensive Strategic Partnership was not merely symbolic. “The advancement of our bilateral relationship, along with the signing of several important agreements, reflects the deep trust and shared vision that bind our two countries,” he remarked. Beyond formal cooperation, Prabowo drew attention to the historical parallels between Indonesia and South Korea, both of which fought for independence and built their foundations from scratch. He praised South Korea’s transformation into an advanced industrial nation, lauding the discipline and resilience of its people. “We admire your achievements, discipline, hard work, and the willingness to always overcome challenges,” he said. Prabowo concluded with confidence that the outcomes of his state visit would deliver “real and lasting benefits” for both nations.
