Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said on Thursday that he wanted to lead his administration based on facts and reality, urging government officials and researchers to confront problems honestly instead of seeking scapegoats.“If I lead, I want to lead based on facts, reality, and the actual situation,” Prabowo told around 150 researchers from Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. The president stressed that the willingness to confront reality is the first step toward solving the country's problems. He said acknowledging uncomfortable facts is essential toward solving the country's problems, adding that complaints without concrete action would not produce results. As an example, Prabowo cited Indonesia's failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, despite being the world's fourth-most populous country, saying the country should examine the reasons behind the shortcoming instead of making excuses.“This is what we need to reflect on and examine. In my view, there is no point in complaining,” he said.Prabowo also urged people not to respond to problems by looking for scapegoats, saying it is more important to identify their root causes, learn from best practices of others and have the courage to implement reforms.“Don't complain and don't look for scapegoats, because that won't help,” he said.“Instead, we should learn why other countries succeeded. What did they do? Where did their coaches come from? Where did they train their athletes? We need to identify the root causes and then have the courage to take action,” he added.Prabowo also reiterated that science and technology are critical to accelerating Indonesia's development, calling on BRIN researchers to continue producing innovations that could support policymaking and help address national challenges.“A nation that masters science and technology will advance rapidly. The key is science and technology. That is a fact and a reality,” he said.
