Prabowo urges Indonesian universities to join giant seawall project

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto instructed Higher Education, Science, and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto to engage universities in the giant seawall construction project along the northern coast of Java.After attending a meeting on the project at the Presidential Palace on Monday, Brian said he plans to invite several professors who have studied the giant seawall to a meeting next week.”Next week, we will invite several professors who have expertise and have been involved in projects such as land development, reclamation, and similar projects,” he said.He added that the professors will be brought together with the head of the North Java Coast Management Authority (BOPPJ), Vice Admiral (Ret.) Didit Herdiawan Ashaf.”They will later be part of the team led by the head of the authority,” he said.Brian emphasized that the giant seawall is a strategic infrastructure project aimed at protecting 60 percent of industrial areas and more than 30 million residents along the northern coast of Java.”Many research findings from universities have already been tested. One example has proven successful in Demak, Semarang. Researchers whose work supports faster and more efficient development of the giant seawall are being invited to participate,” he said.On Monday, President Prabowo chaired a meeting on accelerating the construction of the giant seawall.The meeting was attended by several officials, including Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and BOPPJ head Didit Herdiawan Ashaf, among others.Photos shared by the Presidential Secretariat showed a presentation on water modeling of Jakarta Bay before and after the construction of the giant seawall.
