Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto is expected to sign the final document of the Indonesia-United States reciprocal tariff agreement together with US President Donald Trump, following the completion of the legal drafting process in mid-January.State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi told reporters in Bogor, West Java, on Tuesday that negotiations on US tariffs have now entered the final stage, with negotiation teams from both countries conducting verification and legal drafting in Washington, D.C. from January 12 to 19.“According to the schedule, January 12 to 19 will be dedicated to the legal drafting process. We expect that during this stage, all agreed points can be formally incorporated into the document,” Hadi stated. At subsequent meetings, negotiation teams from both countries will further discuss detailed provisions of the agreement as part of the drafting process. Hadi expressed hope that the final document, known as the Agreement on Reciprocal Tariff (ART), can be signed by both heads of state by the end of January.“Our expectation is that it can be signed by the end of the month. Of course, throughout the process, we continue to pursue negotiations to safeguard our national interests,” he added.Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that negotiation teams from both countries had agreed on all major issues forming the substance of the ART document. In the final week of December 2025, Hartarto also met with US Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Jamieson Greer in Washington, D.C. The meeting was part of efforts to finalize negotiations on US import tariffs imposed on Indonesia, which currently stand at 19 percent.Following the meeting with Greer, Hartarto said that from Jan. 12 to 19, negotiating teams would carry out a final review of the draft agreement, including legal scrubbing and document clean-up, a process expected to take one week. The subsequent phase, scheduled for the third week of January 2026, aims to finalize the ART.Hartarto added that Indonesia has committed to opening market access for US products, addressing various non-tariff barriers, and strengthening cooperation in digital trade and technology, national security, and other commercial areas.Meanwhile, the United States has committed to granting tariff exemptions for several of Indonesia’s key export products not produced domestically in the US, including palm oil, cocoa, coffee, tea, and other strategic commodities.
