Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that his administration has designed the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program and other national strategic initiatives to achieve a minimum economic growth rate of eight percent. He said that, through the MBG program, the government aims to empower 1.5 million workers across around 30,000 kitchens nationwide, with each kitchen projected to employ about 50 people, according to a statement from the Government Communications Agency in Jakarta on Sunday. The program is also expected to indirectly support another 1.5 million people working for businesses and vendors supplying food ingredients to MBG kitchens, he added.Turning to village development, the president highlighted the Red and White Village Cooperatives program, which aims to stimulate rural economies through the operation of more than 80,000 cooperatives and create 1.4 million new jobs. Each cooperative is projected to employ 18 people from the local workforce, he said. The rural community-oriented agenda also extends to the marine sector through the Red and White Fishing Villages program, which is designed to improve the productivity and welfare of fishermen and coastal communities. The government targets the development or upgrading of 1,100 fishing villages by 2026.“We have carried out a pilot project in Biak, Papua, leading to a 60 to 80 percent increase in fishermen's income,” Prabowo said.Another key pillar supporting the economic growth target is a program to develop one million affordable homes, with each housing unit expected to involve five workers, generating a total of five million jobs. The head of state noted that the program is also expected to create broader economic impacts by driving demand for construction materials and utilities. He expressed confidence that the effective implementation of these initiatives would help push economic growth beyond eight percent.
