Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto has instructed Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana to make the most of the upcoming Eid al-Fitr and Nyepi (Balinese Day of Silence) holidays to boost both domestic and international tourist numbers. To achieve this, the President directed Minister Wardhana to personally inspect flagship tourist destinations to ensure they are fully prepared to welcome visitors.”I ask the Tourism Minister to actively visit tourist destinations to promote all aspects of our tourism,” President Prabowo stated during a plenary cabinet meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday. The President, accompanied by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, chaired the meeting focused on government readiness across various sectors ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday. It was the first plenary cabinet session to be convened at the palace in 2026.Addressing his ministers and other high-ranking officials, President Prabowo also highlighted the impact of the ongoing conflict in West Asia, specifically involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, on Indonesia, noting that crises must be met with composure.”We still possess the strength and capability to ensure that the wheels of daily life do not grind to a halt. Overall, the situation is still under control,” President Prabowo asserted.Furthermore, he also urged his Cabinet to ensure homebound travelers' safety and all aspects related to the Eid al-Fitr homecoming.Earlier, the Ministry of Transportation announced that 143.9 million people are projected to travel during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr travel season, slightly lower than last year's survey result of 146 million. This figure is based on a survey conducted by the ministry to identify travel preferences and gauge the public's intent to travel.
