We are following the President’s orders,Jakarta (ANTARA) – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that he will abide by President Prabowo Subianto's directives regarding his potential inclusion in the candidate pool for the next Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI).Speaking to reporters in Jakarta on Tuesday (July 28), Purbaya addressed speculation over his potential nomination to lead the central bank, emphasizing that no formal directions have been issued by the presidential palace.”We are following the President's orders,” Purbaya said.Purbaya acknowledged that he has not yet seen a shortlist candidates or received specific instructions regarding the succession plan, following the sudden resignation of long-serving Governor Perry Warjiyo on Sunday (July 26).“There is no order yet,” he noted.The governor's post became vacant after Perry Warjiyo formally tendered his resignation on Sunday, July 26.Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi confirmed that President Prabowo accepted the resignation but noted that discussions regarding a permanent replacement are still in the early stages.”It has only been a day; the President cannot immediately nominate a definitive candidate,” Prasetyo told reporters at a press briefing at the Bank Indonesia headquarters on Monday (July 27).To prevent a leadership vacuum, Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti has stepped in as Acting Governor, assuming full operational and monetary policy authority over the central bank.Prasetyo clarified that Destry’s interim appointment strictly follows statutory protocol under Law No. 23/1999 on Bank Indonesia, as amended by Law No. 4/2026 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (P2SK).The law mandates that the Senior Deputy Governor automatically assumes the duties of Governor of Bank Indonesia if the primary position becomes vacant.Under established procedures, President Prabowo is expected to submit a list of qualified candidates to the House of Representatives (DPR) for selection and confirmation before appointing a permanent BI Governor.
