Responders fight spreading wildfire in Indonesia’s Way Kambas Park

Lampung (ANTARA) – Emergency response teams are battling a forest fire that has burned roughly 673 hectares of land in Way Kambas National Park in Lampung province as of Saturday afternoon, officials confirmed.”The fire is still raging and spreading from its initial point in the Jati 3 area toward the Mbah Sapon Swamp,” said East Lampung Police Chief Adjunct Senior Commissioner Yuliansyah.High winds and difficult terrain are hindering containment efforts.Because the fire site is inaccessible to motorized vehicles, joint crews are relying on manual fire-fighting methods and portable equipment.A joint force of park rangers, military personnel, police officers, and local volunteers is working to contain the perimeter and prevent the blaze from encroaching deeper into the protected conservation area.Way Kambas National Park Office Head MHD Zaidi stated that while initial assessments put the damaged area at 673.4 hectares, official measurements are still being finalized. He noted that dry season conditions and flammable brush have heightened wildfire risks across the park, requiring continuous monitoring.
