Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul agreed to strengthen economic and trade cooperation by establishing a Joint Trade Commission (JTC) as a new bilateral mechanism between the two countries.The agreement was announced by President Prabowo during a joint press statement at the Merdeka Palace here on Monday.”The Joint Trade Commission is the first in our history as a mechanism to discuss business opportunities and address various trade barriers,” Prabowo said.The president explained that the JTC establishment marked the first such mechanism in the history of Indonesia-Thailand relations.The forum is expected to serve as a platform for discussing business opportunities while resolving trade-related obstacles.Prabowo added that Indonesia is targeting bilateral trade with Thailand to reach US$20 billion by 2030. He expressed confidence that the target could be achieved through the implementation of the two countries' Strategic Partnership Roadmap.”Economic cooperation remains a key pillar of our bilateral relations. We are optimistic that the trade target of US$20 billion by 2030 can be achieved through the implementation of the Strategic Partnership Roadmap,” he said.In addition to strengthening trade, the two countries agreed to expand investment, improve market access, and enhance partnerships between businesses.In the area of food security, Indonesia and Thailand will strengthen cooperation through the development of agricultural technology, logistics, food processing, and supply chain resilience.Meanwhile, in the energy sector, the two countries agreed to promote the Indonesia-Thailand Energy Forum as a platform to strengthen energy security while accelerating the transition to sustainable energy through collaboration between governments and the private sector.
